1. Measuring procedure
• Run the engine until the coolant temperature is within the operating range.
• Stop the engine, remove the muffler and air suction hose (1), then remove the head covers.
• Plug up three air vent tubes (2).
• Replace the head covers, air suction hose (1 l, and the muffler.
1) Remove the cap at engine oil filler (3) and install the blow-by checker adapter in that place.
2) Connect the adapter and tool A (0 – 1 000 mm H2 0 ) with a tube.
3) Run the engine at high idle and read the blowby pressure. * Remove the three plugs from the vent tubes when the measurement is finished.
2. Note. * It is proper to measure the blow-by pressure while the engine is producing the rated horsepower.
• In the field, an approximate pressure can be obtained by measuring the blow-by pressure
while the machine is being stalled under load.
• If it is impossible to measure the blow-by pressure with the engine delivering the rated output, or with the engine stalled under load, measure the pressure with the engine running at high idle. In this case, the measurement will be about 80 percent that which would be obtained with the engine operating at rated horsepower.
* The engine conditions have a great affect on the blow-by pressure. Therefore, if the blow-by pressure has been judged to be abnormal, check for such conditions as a high rate of oil consumption, smoke exhaust or fast deterioration or contamination of the engine oil.
