Manual Extract: Alternator – Static description
• The alternator is the source of electrical energy.
• A semiconductor voltage regulator is part of the alternator to maintain output voltage within limits while the revolutions, load, and ambient temperature vary.
• Regulated voltage is measured on terminal +B.
• The alternator must always be connected to the battery – positive battery to +B. It is not allowed to disconnect the battery while the engine is running.
• Avoid shorts in the alternator circuit. While repairing wiring or welding on the machine, disconnect the alternator.
When starting with an external source, it is not permitted to disconnect this source when the battery is not yet on.
The alternator must not be run unloaded with the cable removed from terminal "+B" and terminal "+D" connected.
• A burnt-out indicator bulb of charging must be replaced immediately. Without this bulb the alternator excitation doesn't function. When washing the engine, prevent water from entering the ventilation openings on the alternator.
NOTE: When welding on the machine, disconnect the alternator leads from terminals "+B" and "+D", and electrical devices containing semiconductors. Disconnect the battery when repairing other electrical devices.
