The series electrical system is readily identifiable by the existence of a rotating exciter mounted next to the blower assembly on top of the traction alternator. The other electrical system, known as the STATEX electrical system, uses a solid state exciter mounted within the main electrical cabinet.\u003cbr\u003eBecause of the difference in these two electrical systems, the electric wheel motors are not interchangeable between the two systems.
